The criminal case of Russians Evgeny Erofeev and Alexander Alexandrov, arrested in Ukraine on charges of terrorism, may in the future become the subject of consideration by international courts. According to Interfax, the head of the Main Investigation Department of the SBU, Vasily Vovk, stated this on Espresso TV.

“If we take it in the future, I think that this may be one of the components for consideration by international courts, if they exist, if this happens, if we cannot cope on our own,” said Vasily Vovk, head of the Main Investigation Department of the SBU, on the TV channel “ Espresso TV" on Saturday evening.

He also noted that he could not predict the outcome of the trial, but assured that those arrested were receiving the legal support required by law. “We don’t know what the court will do,” said the SBU representative.

The official announcement of the detention of two Russians came from Kiev on May 17, while Alexandrov and Yerofeyev were named as active Russian military personnel. A few hours after it became known about the detention, the LPR authorities announced that security forces had captured two Luhansk People’s Militia fighters. Another day later, the Russian Ministry of Defense made a comment: official representative of the department Igor Konashenkov said that Aleksandrov and Erofeev are no longer active military personnel.

The information from the Ministry of Defense was confirmed in a television interview by Alexandrov’s wife and Yerofeyev’s father , who claimed that their loved ones had left the army.

Novaya Gazeta special correspondent Pavel Kanygin, who visited the detained Russians in the hospital, said in an interview with the RBC TV channel that Alexandrov was surprised to learn about his dismissal from the army.

During the interrogation, the video of which was published by the Ukrainian side, Aleksandrov and Erofeev stated that they arrived in Ukraine on March 26, 2015 as part of a battalion of 220 people. This group included military personnel of the third separate guards brigade stationed in Togliatti.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that there are no Russian military personnel on the territory of Ukraine, and the conflict in Donbass is internal to Ukraine.
