The interdepartmental commission on the naming of territorial units of Moscow on Monday approved the naming of a street in the center of Moscow after Vladimir Vysotsky, the head of the commission, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Issues Leonid Pechatnikov, told Interfax. However, he clarified that in order to officially name the street after Vysotsky, a resolution of the city government is necessary.

We are talking about the Upper and Lower Tagansky dead ends, which are located near the Taganka Theater. As Pechatnikov explained, they were once dead ends, but after perestroika they became a single street, which begins at Verkhnyaya Radishchevskaya Street.

In a conversation with RSN , the head of the Taganskoye municipality, Ilya Sviridov, explained why the choice fell on two dead ends. According to him, there is not a single residential building there and the renaming will not be associated with any difficulties for people.

Earlier, in a conversation with RBC, Sviridov said that he did not know who introduced this initiative for consideration by the Moscow authorities.

On April 16, during a “Direct Line” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the editor-in-chief of “Echo of Moscow” Alexei Venediktov proposed naming Marxist Street after Vysotsky. The head of state promised to discuss this issue with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Putin noted that Vysotsky certainly deserved “to have his name and memory of him immortalized, including by assigning [his name] to one of the streets of Moscow.” On May 6, according to an Interfax source, it became known that the capital’s leadership supported this idea .

Vladimir Vysotsky became famous not only as the author and performer of his own songs. He worked for 16 years at the Taganka Theater and played many roles in films. As a theater actor, Vysotsky is remembered for his role as Hamlet. Among his movie heroes, Gleb Zheglov (“The meeting place cannot be changed”), geologist Maxim from “Brief Encounters” and others are memorable.
