Former mayor of Severouralsk sentenced to nine years in colony

The court in absentia sentenced the former mayor of Severouralsk Yuri Frolov, accused of extortion, by nine years in a maximum security colony, the press service of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Sverdlovsk Region reports.

"In addition, he was appointed a fine of 800 thousand rubles and he is deprived of the right to hold a position in the civil service for a period of three years," the department added.

The accomplice of Frolov - the head of the municipal institution "Customer Service of the Severouralsky City District" Tigran Simonyan - was also found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison in a maximum security colony. However, he will have to spend eight years in prison, since earlier a sentence was sentenced to him in another case. In addition, he must pay a fine of 600 thousand rubles.

Frolov disappeared in August 2014 and was put on the international wanted list. Since then, its whereabouts are unknown.

According to the investigation, from 2007 to 2010, SMS-Kontakt and SMS+Contact LLC at their own expense performed repair and construction work in preschool and educational institutions. The defendants had a debt to organizations in the amount of three million rubles. Knowing that the duty on obligations was not repaid, Frolov and Simonyan extorted 900 thousand rubles from the director. For this money, they promised to sign acts of accepting the work performed and pay off the debt.
