President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree that approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the National Security Strategy of Ukraine, RBC reports.

The main directions of the state policy of Ukraine in the field of national security are the restoration of the territorial integrity of the state, the creation of an effective security and defense sector, as well as increasing the country's defense capabilities.

The law provides for reforms and the development of intelligence and law enforcement agencies and a security public administration system.

The strategy involves the integration of Ukraine into the EU and the formation of conditions for joining NATO. Poroshenko previously called the possibility of joining the alliance of an "extremely important" component of a strategy passing a "red thread" through the entire document.

The National Security Strategy of Ukraine was adopted by the National Security and Defense Council on May 6 of this year and is the main document of the country's military planning.
