The arrest of the former head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Alexander Reimer has been extended for two months

The Presnensky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of former FSIN director Alexander Reimer until July 31, Interfax reports .

The court hearing was held behind closed doors due to the disclosure of information about the defendant’s health. Listeners were allowed inside only for the announcement of the decision.

The investigator noted that it was necessary to extend the arrest due to the need to carry out a large volume of investigative actions. In particular, the accused must familiarize himself with the results of the forensic accounting examination, the volume of which is more than 2 thousand pages.

The defense asked to change Reimer's preventive measure to bail or house arrest. According to lawyers, their client’s health status is preventing them from being in a pre-trial detention center.

The decision to arrest Reimer was made on March 31, 2015. As part of the same criminal case, the director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Center for Information, Technical Support and Communications” Viktor Oderenov and businessman Nikolai Martynov were arrested, and Reimer’s ex-deputy Nikolai Krivolapov was put under house arrest.

All four have been charged with fraud. According to the investigation, officials and a businessman stole more than 2.7 billion rubles allocated in 2010-2012 to provide FSIN units with electronic bracelets.
