Roscosmos has completed its investigation into the Progress accident

The commission to investigate the accident of the Progress cargo spacecraft, launched to the ISS on April 28, has established the final reasons for the unsuccessful launch. As follows from the conclusions of the commission, the loss of Progress was caused by an abnormal separation of the third stage of the Soyuz-2.1A launch vehicle, which was caused by an unaccounted feature of the interaction between the spacecraft and the carrier.

No information about why the design features of the work of Progress and the launch vehicle were not taken into account was not disclosed in the message of Roscosmos.

This design feature was not fully taken into account during the development work (R&D) to create this rocket and space complex. No restrictions on further operation of the SOYUZ-2.1A launch vehicle with other spacecraft have been identified.

• On April 28, the Progress spacecraft with cargo for the International Space Station was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The ship did not enter the calculated orbit; on May 8, it burned up in dense layers of the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean.
• Earlier, Roskosmos reported that the reason for Progress's failure to enter the calculated orbit was the abnormal separation of the third stage of the launch vehicle and the cargo spacecraft.
• Sources of Interfax in the rocket and space field claimed that the explosion of the engine of the third stage of the launch vehicle was the cause of the accident.
