
The President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) SEPP Blatter is in the center of investigation of the American authorities. It is reported by The New York Times with reference to unnamed sources.
Sources of the ABC News television channel reported that Blatter is under the investigation of the FBI as part of the case, in which seven members of the FIFA leadership were arrested last week. No details of the publication are given.
The representative of the FBI said that his department did not intend to comment on the media statements and report anything besides what was already said by the Prosecutor General and Director of the FBI. Previously, they said that FIFA's activities were being investigated in connection with accusations of corruption.
The day before, Blatter promisedto resign from his post after 6-9 months. He explained that in the period from December 2015 to March 2016, the Emergency Congress of FIFA will be convened. Blatter on it intends to announce a resignation.
“FIFA needs deep changes in the structure,” said FIFA President at a press conference. “My re -election was not supported by all subjects of football.” Therefore, he concluded, and it is necessary to convene an emergency congress as soon as possible, without waiting for the next one, which should go in May 2016 in Mexico City. Blatter also recognized his responsibility for corruption scandals with the participation of FIFA functionaries. "We cannot be responsible for the actions of the confederations members, but we are responsible for everything that happens under the auspices of FIFA," said the functionary.
The 79-year-old Swiss Blatter has been heading FIFA since 1998. On May 29, he was once again re -elected to his post . “I take the responsibility for FIFA to return to the old positions, and with you, I have no doubt, we will achieve this,” the functionary assured after the election. According to media reports, 18 FIFA functionaries have been charged with corruption over the past 20 years around applications for the world championships, as well as fraud with marketing and broadcast transactions. In addition, they are charged with fraud, racketeering and laundering. The United States requires the extradition of football functionaries.
