Ukrainian mathematician and human rights activist Leonid Plyushch died in France

Ukrainian publicist, mathematician, member of the USSR human rights movement Leonid Plyushch died today in France at the age of 77.

In 1972, Leonid Plyushch was arrested on charges of "anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda." Later, with a diagnosis of "sluggish schizophrenia", he was sent for compulsory treatment to the Dnepropetrovsk Special Psychiatric Hospital. A massive international campaign for Ivy contributed to his release in 1976. After his release, Plyushch emigrated to France, where since 1977 he was a foreign representative of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group.

Leonid Plyushch is the author of the book "At the Carnival of History", a monograph about Taras Shevchenko, as well as journalistic and literary articles.
