Turkish police confirmed the arrival of missing Moscow State University student in Istanbul

Turkish police have confirmed the arrival in Istanbul on May 27 of Moscow State University student Varvara Karaulova, who may have been recruited by the Islamic State, according to the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“Currently, the competent Turkish authorities are carrying out operational-search measures in order to establish the location of V.P. Karaulova,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Russian authorities are cooperating with the Turkish authorities on the search for the whereabouts of Karaulova.

Earlier it became known that the second-year student of the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University Varvara Karaulova left the house on May 27 and has since disappeared. In an interview, her father said that the signal of the girl's mobile phone was detected through triangulation in Turkey near the border with Syria.

According to Pavel Karaulov and his lawyer Alexander Karabanov, Varvara, who studied Arabic at the university, was psychologically influenced, she was recruited into the ranks of supporters of the so-called Islamic State. After the disappearance, the girl's parents found out that she left the house in ordinary clothes, at the university she wore a hijab.
