At the training ground in the Kalachevsky district of the Volgograd region, a contract serviceman of the internal troops, through negligence, shot himself and wounded a conscript soldier, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press service of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As the press service told the agency, the incident occurred at a training ground near the city of Kalach-on-Don during training and the cause of the tragedy was the non-compliance of the contractor with safety measures when handling weapons.

“As a result, he himself (a contract employee - approx.) received a mortal wound in the head, after which the second soldier received a minor wound in the leg by a ricochet,” the press service of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The law enforcement agencies of the Volgograd region TASS clarified that the deceased was an ensign.

Earlier today, Interfax reported on the hospitalization of two servicemen to the Kalachevsky Central District Hospital from a local training ground.

The Volgograd media were the first to write about the incident. The Volgograd News agency reported that 24-year-old ensign Artem Guryanov died, and 20-year-old private Yakov Lagoshin was wounded as a result of one of the soldiers shooting at his colleagues. According to Volgograd News, one of the conscripts opened fire on his colleagues while firing live ammunition.

Guryanov and Lagoshin, the agency reports, served in military unit 3642 of Kalach-on-Don.
