The Greek government did not agree with the draft agreement proposed by the creditors

Athens will not accept the draft agreement proposed by creditors the day before. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced this on Thursday, June 4, at a meeting with Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and other members of the cabinet.

“[The lenders’] latest proposals will not be accepted,” Tsipras said. “Our partners must understand that the Greek people have suffered over the past five years,” the Prime Minister said. “Someone needs to stop playing on the backs of the Greek population,” he added.

Greece's public debt currently exceeds 315 billion euros, which is 175% of GDP. International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said on Thursday she was confident Greece would make payments to the fund on Friday. On June 5, Athens must return 305 million euros to the International Monetary Fund. Between June 5 and June 19, the country must pay the IMF 1.6 billion euros.
