The Human Rights Council asks the Minister of Internal Affairs to Vladimir Kolokoltsev to take under state protection the chairman of the committee against torture, a member of the HRC Igor Kalyapin. This was stated by the chairman of the HRC Mikhail Fedotov, the Vedomosti reports . The reason for circulation was the pogrom of the office of human rights activists in Grozny.
Never before was a member of the HRC to provide security, the member of the council Andrei Babushkin emphasized. “The HRC is former lawyers, police, prosecutors, thousands of criminal cases have passed through their hands, so the intuition of members of the Council is a reasonable reason to pose such a question,” Grandmother explained.
“The fact that the Council asks for protection for one of its members is a significant event that means that human rights in Russia are very bad,” said Pavel Chikov, a member of the HRC.
The HRC will also send letters to the Investigative Committee and Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to take an investigation of the case of an attack on the office of human rights activists under their control. In addition, the HRC will prepare a report that Fedotov intends to transfer to President Vladimir Putin.
Kalyapin explained the need to prepare such a report by the fact that the point of view of human rights defenders for a crime should be brought to the president. Earlier, the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov said that the materials for Putin will be prepared. However, none of the press service turned to the representatives of the committee against torture.
The pogrom of the office of a consolidated mobile group of human rights activists occurred on Wednesday during a rally of memory of Dzhambulat Dadaev, who was killed in April in a formidable police from Stavropol while trying to detain. About 200 people, mainly women, came to the house where the SMG office is located. They began to shout the slogans "Why are Kalyapins silent?" And "killers to answer!".
Then about 10 people with scraps and sledgehammer appeared near the office. They were in hoods, black glasses and medical masks. At first, these people defeated the car of human rights activists, parked in the yard. Then they broke into the porch and painted over the eye of the office door. Unable to hack the metal door, the attackers entered the office through the balcony.
The human rights defenders of the SMG in the office were evacuated through the window. The attackers completely defeated the room, destroyed office equipment and carried away all the documents. Then, with the help of a grinder, they began to open the door to the apartment of human rights activists, located in the same entrance. The police were inactive.
On Thursday, the police opened a criminal case on the fact of an attack on the office. Alaudinov, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Chechnya, said that the investigators detained the incident and delivered 35 participants in the action to the police department.
The checkpoint will continue to work in Chechnya, Kalyapin said. However, he did not rule out that the office would be transferred to another place.
On Thursday, the official representative of the European Foreign Policy Service called on Russia to conduct a thorough investigation of the crime . In Brussels, it is believed that human rights activists should be able to continue work in the interests of Russian citizens, in particular, in those regions of Russia where it is most necessary.
