Theater artist Valery Levental died

Today, June 8, at the age of 76 in Baltimore (USA), a theater artist, scenographer and teacher Valery Levental died.

This was reported to Colta.ru in the press service of the Bolshoi Theater.

Valery Yakovlevich Levental was born in 1938 in Moscow, graduated from VGIK (1962), in 1963 he debuted as a theater artist, issuing performances in the theater named after M.N. Ermolova and in the Moscow Musical Theater. K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko.

Since 1965, Levental was an artist-winner, in 1988-1995-the chief artist of the Bolshoi Theater. He collaborated with B. Pokrovsky, Yu. Grigorovich, V. Vasiliev, M. Plisetskaya, took part in the creation of a large number of opera performances.

Since 1979 he worked in the Moscow Art Theater, after 1987 - in the Moscow Art Theater. A.P. Chekhov, designed performances based on the plays of A. Gelman, M. Roshchin, S. Mrozhek, A. Ostrovsky, Chekhov’s productions of Oleg Efremov: “Seagull”, “Uncle Vanya”, “Cherry Garden” and “Three Sisters”.

Valery Levental worked a lot abroad - in the theaters of Europe (including in Milan La Scala and the Bologna Comunal), America, Japan. In Germany, he designed more than thirty performances, collaborated with the famous German opera directors - Walter Felzenstein and Harry Kupfer.

Since 1983, he taught at the Faculty of Art-Studio of the Moscow Art Theater (since 1988-a professor), in 1987 he opened at this faculty the offset of theatrical artists.
