In Arkhangelsk, the editor-in-chief of the opposition newspaper "Pravda North-West" was arrested

Ilya Azovsky was arrested in Arkhangelsk, the chief of the two opposition media - the newspapers "Pravda of the North -West" and the news agency "Echo of the North". It is reported by Flashnord. For a period until August 9, the Oktyabrsky District Court sent a 46-year-old journalist to the pre-trial detention center-1 in the regional center.

Azov was detained on Monday. FSKN is fabricating against him in part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code (illegal overalls of drugs on a large amount), which provides for from 3 to 10 years of the colony. Meanwhile, the journalist’s colleagues have no doubt that his professional activity was the real reason for the persecution.

As the Echo of the North reports , Azovsky announced a hunger strike on June 8 in protest against the factory of the case. At the same time, the agency notes, the chief editor was detained on the same day, when the head of the regional headquarters of the FSKN Valery Safyanov was removed from his post. In this regard, the "echo of the North" does not exclude that criminal prosecution can be regarded as the revenge of the security forces to the journalist.

According to Flashnord, the media led by Azov, the only ones in the region criticize Governor Igor Orlov. At the end of May, Orlov, in response to the question of readiness for cooperation with the opposition media, stated: "I am ready to cooperate with everyone except the villains. Some of this will be written about me and my family that I would not have been in the face."

As the Dvinskaya Land notes , in October 2006, Azov, at that time, a deputy of the regional assembly from the LDPR, was sentenced to 1 year of a colony of settlement under part 3 of Article 129 of the Criminal Code (slander with a serious crime accusation). In February 2007, “Arguments and Facts in Arkhangelsk” were transferred , the regional court replaced the journalist for a term in the colony for one and a half years of corrections with a deduction of 10 percent of the salary in favor of the state. During the investigation, Azov spent 3 months in jail.

The journalist was brought to justice for the article “Krupchak threw Yushchenko in the bee of election passions in Ukraine”, which appeared in the Pravda of the North-West in November 2004. According to Kommersant, the article stated that Vladimir Krupchak, the then State Duma deputy from United Russia in the Arkhangelsk single -mandate district, promised Viktor Yushchenko, who ran a meeting with Vladimir Putin for 5 million dollars at that time, but did not fulfill his promises.

In 2012, a case against the President of the Association of Pomors of the Arkhangelsk Region Ivan Moseeva was opened for the denunciation of Azovsky . The activist was fined 100 thousand rubles under part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (excitement of hatred or hostility) for a comment assigned to him with a derogatory review of the Russians.
