Murmansk human rights activist fined 20 thousand for a series of single pickets in memory of Nemtsov

On June 11, the Oktyabrsky Court of Murmansk fined Irina Paikacheva, a member of the regional public monitoring commission, 20,000 rubles on charges of organizing an uncoordinated picket. This is written by the online magazine "7 × 7".

We are talking about the March 1 rally in memory of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, who was killed in Moscow on the night of February 28, held in the form of a series of single pickets. Paikacheva stressed that the action was spontaneous and could not be agreed upon, since February 28 and March 1 fell on the weekend. The lawyer of the Public Verdict Foundation, Daria Pigoleva, who represents the interests of Paikacheva, also noted that her client was not the organizer, but a participant in the action, so bringing her to justice is illegal.

According to the law on rallies, single pickets do not require prior approval if their participants stand at a sufficient distance from each other. The minimum distance is regulated by regional laws, but cannot exceed 50 meters. According to amendments made to the federal law in the summer of 2012, a series of single pickets "united by a common idea and common organization" can be recognized as one public event, but only by a court decision.
