Politpressing.org: Contributed database of modern political repression

OVD-Info launched a new project: Politpressing. Org . This is a database of political persecution in modern Russia. At the moment, the site contains information about the persecution of people in criminal order from 2011 to 2015. Partners of the project were the Human Rights Center "Memorial" and the Center for the operational response of the protection of human rights defenders , the project operator is the OVD-Info.

The task of the project is to bring together all the available data on political persecution in modern Russia, to make this data available and understandable for a wide audience and provide collected data with convenient tools for further professional work with them. “We believe that the availability of information leads to changes, and we hope that the data that we collect, analyze and publish will be actively used by journalists, lawyers, human rights activists and researchers so that political repressions are in history,” the authors of the project said.

Currently in the database PolitPressing. Org information is available about 296 people who were persecuted for political reasons in criminal order in 2011-2015. To date, according to the project, 104 people are subjected to criminal prosecution, of which 38 are in jail, 24 - in conclusion, 12 - under the subscription about the lower room and 6 under house arrest.

Cases of criminal prosecutions, which are evaluated by various human rights organizations as politically motivated or unlawful, enter the base. At this stage, Politpressing.org relies on the information of the PC Memorial, the Union of Solidarity with the Political Products, the Center for Sova, Amnesty International and a number of other organizations.
