According to the Constitution, Vladimir Putin has the right to nominate for a second term in 2018. However, you should not expect from the head of state an application for intention to run for this year. This was in an interview with Financial Times by the head of the presidential administration Sergey Ivanov.

As Ivanov noted, the Kremlin never discussed the possibility of early presidential elections. “Do we have a terrible crisis and a pre -revolutionary situation in the country? Yes, we have economic problems, but they are in the European Union and the UK. I really look forward to a referendum [about the membership of Great Britain in the EU], I wonder what the result will be. I am also interested in how the crisis will end in Greece - we have to wait quite a bit. But as for Russia, I do not see a crisis, ”he told Financial Times.

The head of the presidential administration also noted that the transfer of elections to the Duma two months earlier makes sense, since the new parliament will accept a new budget and will be responsible for it. At the same time, Ivanov noted that he sees nothing in common in the early Duma and presidential elections.

Recall that Vladimir Putin was elected president in 2000 and was re -elected in 2004. From 2008 to 2012, he held the post of prime minister. In 2012, Putin was actually elected for the third term, which expires in 2018 (in 2008, the powers of the president were extended from four to six years). According to the Constitution, the same person cannot hold the presidency of two terms in a row.
