Roskomnadzor reached the Internet archive

Today, June 25, Roskomnadzor blocked one of the pages of Service of storage of copies of Wayback Machine web pages. For some time, Russian Internet users did not have access to the entire Archive.org resource.

According to RBC , the Prosecutor General’s Office decided to block the “single jihad in Russia” page on June 16, finding “calls in riots, extremist activities, participation in mass events conducted in violation of the established order”.

Despite the statement of Roskomnadzor that access is limited to only one page of the Archive.org site, it was impossible to open it an hour ago without using an anonymizer.

At 14:20 Moscow time, the service is available again, only a page with the material, which the Prosecutor General recognized as extremist, was blocked. When trying to open it, a message is issued on the restriction of access "at the request of law enforcement agencies in accordance with applicable law."

Over the past year, Wayback Machine has been blocked in Russia for the second time: last fall Roskomnadzor suspended access to the service due to the placement of the “Calling Swords” of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant).

Since 1996, the non-profit organization Internet Archive has been collecting copies of web pages, graphic materials, video, audio recordings and software. As of June 2015, the archive contains 485 billion web pages.
