The Sochi worker-electrical worker Mardiros Demerchyan, subjected to severe torture in the police, and then unfairly convicted on charges of obviously false denunciation, filed a complaint with the ECHR. This was reported by the Public Verdict Foundation, whose lawyer Alexander Popkov represents the interests of the victim.

As can be concluded from the publication of the fund, the complaint states that Russia violated Article 3 (prohibition of torture) and 13 (the right to an effective means of legal protection) of the European Convention against Demerchyan. Whether the victim of Russia accuses of violation of Article 6 of the Convention (the right to a fair trial), from the message is not clear.

40-year-old Demerchyan lives in Sochi with his wife and four children. Previously, he worked as an electrician on the construction of a house for Olympic volunteers. On June 12, 2013, Demerchyan and another worker, Sergey Krbashyan, having quit from the Okhotsk construction company, came to the former employer at the calculation. However, they were detained there, after which they delivered to the city OP "Blinovo" on suspicion of theft of 2 kilometers of cable worth more than 50 thousand rubles.

The police of Demerchyan was tortured for several hours in a row, demanding to confess to a crime. The worker was knocked out, they broke their heads and put the scrap into the anus. From the police, he was taken to the 4th City Bollenge of Sochi in critical condition.

Relatives of Demerchyan filed an application with the TFR. A group of State Duma deputies also sent requests for the incident to the Investigative Department and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, the TFR refused to open the torture case, saying that their fact was not confirmed during the audit. Instead, against the victim himself, the case was opened under Part 1 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code (knowingly false denunciation), which provides for up to two years of the colony.

On December 17, 2014, the judge of the Adler District Court of Sochi Alexander Yakimenko sentenced Demerchyan to 300 hours of corrections . At the same time, important testimony of witnesses - the operative who spoke about torture and doctors who claimed that the worker was bad disappeared from the protocols of the court hearings. Yakimenko refused to interrogate Krbashyan - a key witness to the defense.

However, on April 2, 2015, the judge of the Krasnodar Kraisud Natalya Golysheva canceled the verdict to the worker and sent the case for the investigation.

Meanwhile, later in April, a new case was opened against Demerchyan - it was on charges of theft of Cable. Now the worker is under the subscription about the lower room.

At the same time, the investigator of the Sochi OP "Adler" Oksana Merutina, who is conducting the case, admitted: "I do not make decisions on the investigative process, but my leadership and the Adler prosecutor's office."

The worker does not plead guilty. Meanwhile, information about the progress of the investigation of a new case in the last 2 months has not appeared.
