Evgeny Primakov died

Former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Evgeny Primakov died at the age of 85, RIA Novosti reports.

The condolences in connection with the death of the policy were expressed by President Vladimir Putin, the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov said. "The president is supplied with mournful news about the death of Yevgeny Maksimovich Primakov, the president will deeply condemn the relatives and friends of Yevgeny Maksimovich," Peskov told reporters.

According to him, Putin knew Primakov, was his ally. "He was a state -owned person, a scientist, a politician, left behind a very big legacy," Peskov said.

Evgeny Primakov was born on October 29, 1929 in Kyiv. He headed the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR from 1977 to 1985. In the late 1980s he was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

In 1991-1996, Primakov headed the foreign intelligence service, after which he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In September 1998, on the proposal of Boris Yeltsin, Evgeny Primakov became the Prime Minister of Russia.

In 2000-2001, Primakov headed the parliamentary faction "Fatherland-all of Russia". From 2001 to 2011, Primakov served as the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

One of the most striking events during his location at the premiere post was a failed visit to the United States. March 24, 1999 Evgeny Primakov headed to Washington. When the plane was above the Atlantic, the prime minister was informed that NATO began the bombing of Yugoslavia. Primakov decided to cancel the visit, ordered the plane over the ocean and returned to Moscow.
