The US House of Representatives and Senate voted to approve the defense budget for the 2016 fiscal year. Both resolutions significantly increase the US defense budget - by at least $35 billion compared to even the Pentagon's own request. At the same time, it is planned to reduce allocations for advanced defense research projects (DARPA) and for basic scientific research (-7.8% compared to 2015), but to increase funding for applied research.
