year 2014. Eduard Shevardnadze died

A year ago, on July 7, 2014, Eduard Amvrosievich Shevardnadze, the former head of the Georgian Communist Party, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, and the second president of Georgia, died at the age of 86. On December 20, 1990, from the rostrum of the IV Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR, he announced his resignation from the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs "in protest against the impending dictatorship." Shevardnadze was ousted from the presidency of Georgia on November 23, 2003 as a result of the Rose Revolution. Shevardnadze's regime was accused of massive corruption, mafia ties, and electoral fraud.
