Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff discussed the situation in Ukraine during a meeting at the BRICS summit in Ufa, which took place late on Wednesday evening, July 8, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

According to Peskov, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff became interested in the situation in Ukraine.

“Putin gave a very detailed explanation and positively assessed the very restrained position of his Brazilian colleagues on the Ukrainian problem,” Peskov said at a briefing for journalists in Ufa. The issues of Syria and ISIS were also raised during the conversation, Peskov said.

Yesterday, Putin also held talks with colleagues from China, Tajikistan, India, and Belarus, and the Ukrainian topic was not raised at them, Peskov said.

Peskov called the conversation between Putin and Rousseff long and meaningful. They went over in detail the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, mentioned cooperation in nuclear energy, and on the Brazilian side, issues were raised about the difficulties that Brazilian exporters face when supplying agricultural products to Russia. Putin focused on the fact that there are a number of documents that await ratification in Brazil, Peskov said. These are agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and cooperation in military-technical cooperation. The delay in ratifying these agreements does not allow us to fully utilize the legal framework of bilateral relations.
