Member of the Jehovah's Witnesses community, placed under arrest, released early

The elder of the community of Jehovah's Witnesses of the village of Bryukhovetskaya, Vladimir Yeltavsky, who was sentenced to twelve days of arrest, was released after 32 hours in custody. The Krasnodar Regional Court overturned the decision of the court of first instance, declaring it illegal, according to the Information and Analytical Center "Sova".

Eltavsky was found guilty of distributing extremist literature. Earlier it was reported that the process in the Bryukhovetsky District Court, which issued the decision on the arrest, was carried out with violations: the verdict was issued after the three-month statute of limitations for the offense committed in March had expired; Yeltavsky learned about the case brought against him an hour before the hearing from the bailiff, who forcibly brought him to court from home; the court denied Eltavsky the right to qualified legal assistance and familiarization with documents and materials.
