This was later confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry. "According to our information, the account is closed in connection with the sanctions against the general director of the MIA Russia Today Dmitry Kiselev," the department said . Moscow requires urgent explanations from the British side.

“The account was closed on July 8, 2015 unilaterally,” the Foreign Ministry said. “There were no notifications and warnings against the agency. Its representatives did not inform about the fate of the funds that were in the account. The situation arose for the activities of the largest information agency of the Russian Federation in the UK.”

On June 18, the authorities of France and Belgium arrested the accounts of Russia Today in their countries along with the assets of other Russian institutions, with the exception of diplomatic missions. This was done on the basis of the decision of the arbitration court in the Hague of July 18, 2014 at the suit of one of the shareholders of the Yukos - the company Yukos Universal Limited. In his decision, announced 10 days later, on July 28, the arbitration ordered Russia to pay yukos $ 50 billion to shareholders, including the Yukos Universal Limited - 1.6 billion euros.

At the same time, the buildings of Russia Today were not arrested in these countries. As explained by RIA Novosti, "the agency does not have these buildings - they are rented from state procurement."
