Three animal rights activists were detained in St. Petersburg on July 11

In St. Petersburg on July 11, three animal rights activists, activists of the Vita Center, were detained. They held performances and solo pickets near the Sibur Arena, where the Zapashny Brothers Circus is touring. Activists oppose circus performances involving animals. According to "ZakS.Ru", the administration of the Petrogradsky district twice did not agree on the holding of a mass action, each time referring to different sports competitions. At the same time, according to the activists themselves, to whom the publication refers, “on the day of the planned action, the bike ride announced by the administration took place a few hours before it.”

One activist stood in a cage dressed as a tiger, two more stood in single pickets. According to Vita activists, whose words are quoted by the publication, “2 minutes after the start of the action, three very impressive uncles approached the cage with a participant dressed in a tiger costume, who immediately covered the fragile girl from the circus visitors with their wide bodies. The uncles, resembling the heroes of the cartoon “Two from the Casket” (only there are three of them), continued to stand in this position for quite a long time, interfering with the holding of a legal one-man picket and shouting accusations against the picket participant. An attempt to move the giants, who were frightened by the picketers, was not successful even with the police: after the persuasion of the guards, the giants moved a few centimeters, but they could not leave the girl with the poster “Circus is a prison for animals” in front of the crowd reading it.”

Later, the number of police officers increased. “It turned out that the police are seriously worried about the fate of the girl, who, as they think, can get hurt while sitting inside the cage. When the police were assured that the cage was absolutely safe for the girl, they still did not calm down and began to show concern about the fate of passers-by, whom, in their opinion, the cage must have hurt, the activists said. - When this very extravagant argument, given that the cage was a few meters from passers-by, did not work again, the police took the banal path, offering a participant in a tiger costume, as well as two picketers standing more than 50 meters away from a friend with posters and leaflets, drive to the department.
