When considering the issue of paying compensation to former shareholders of the Yukos oil company, the Russian Ministry of Justice will be guided by the decision of the Constitutional Court on the priority of the country's fundamental law, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reported.

Earlier on July 14, the Constitutional Court announced that Russia could, in some cases, derogate from the execution of decisions of the ECtHR if they could entail a violation of fundamental constitutional rights.

“Further actions of the Ministry of Justice of Russia will be carried out on the basis of the legal position formulated by the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation and which is mandatory for all subjects of rights on the territory of the Russian Federation on the priority of the Constitution of the Russian Federation in relation to acts of international judicial bodies,” the press service of the Ministry of Justice said....>

The decision to pay compensation of 1.8 billion euros to ex-shareholders of Yukos Oil Company was made by the European Court of Human Rights in July 2014. The court also ordered Russia to reimburse the plaintiffs for legal costs in the amount of 300,000 euros. The decision came into force on December 16, 2014.
In mid-June, when the Russian Federation was supposed to present a plan for paying compensation awarded to Yukos shareholders, State Duma deputies asked the Constitutional Court to clarify how the Russian Federation should comply with the decisions of the ECtHR.
