The Russian Investigative Committee demanded the arrest of Deputy Ilya Ponomarev in absentia
The investigation sent a petition to the Basmanny Court for the arrest in absentia of State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev. The Basmanny Court scheduled the consideration of the petition for July 17, said court spokeswoman Anna Fadeeva.
Due to the fact that Ponomarev is outside the Russian Federation, the investigation also plans to initiate an international search for him with subsequent extradition.

“The petition of the investigation against Ponomarev was submitted to the court, its consideration is scheduled for July 17 at 10:00 Moscow time,” Anna Fadeeva, spokeswoman for the Basmanny Court, said.
- In early April 2015, the State Duma, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, deprived Ponomarev of his parliamentary immunity. In early June, it became known that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case against Ilya Ponomarev for complicity in embezzlement of the Skolkovo Foundation.
- The case of embezzlement of the Skolkovo Foundation has been under investigation since 2013. According to investigators, Alexei Beltyukov, vice-president of Skolkovo, concluded an agreement with Ilya Ponomarev, according to which the deputy had to write a number of scientific papers and give ten lectures, only to hide the embezzlement.
- In August 2013, the court ruled to recover 2.7 million rubles from Ilya Ponomarev in the Skolkovo lawsuit. Ponomarev expressed fears that due to the decision on the Skolkovo lawsuit, the bailiff service could close his exit from Russia and, therefore, he could not return to the country.
