The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, based on the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine, was announced by the person by the acting of the acting Consul General of Russia in Odessa. This was reported by the press service of the SBU.

"In accordance with Article 23 of the Vienna Convention on the consular relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Russian side handed a note to the Russian side with an urgent reservation to leave the territory of our country, acting Genconsul of the Russian Federation in Odessa," the report said.

The name of the diplomat in the message of the SBU is not mentioned. On the website of the diplomatic mission, Valery Shibeko, the acting Genconsul of Russia in Odessa, was named. He was appointed to this post in June 2014.

The decision was made due to incompatibility of the acting The Genconsul with diplomatic status, as well as for violation of the provisions of the Vienna Convention, said the head of the SBU Vasily Gritsak. He assured that the SBU will continue to identify foreigners who work against Ukraine, hiding behind the status. The Russian diplomat has already left Ukraine.

Moscow perceives the situation with the Russian General Consul in Odessa as an unfriendly step and takes the necessary response measures. This was stated by the state secretary - deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Grigory Karasin, Interfax reports . “It is clear that this is not enthusiastic about us, and we perceive it as another unfriendly step that is aimed at artificial aggravation of tension in our relations with Ukraine,” he said. “In such a situation, the Russian side will take the necessary response measures, as is taken in diplomatic practice.”

In Odessa, there are often terrorist attacks directed against Ukrainian organizations. In April, the SBU announced the detention of 40 saboteurs who were preparing terrorist attacks. The authorities will not allow the repetition of the tragic events that occurred in Odessa on May 2 last year.
