The trial of Oleg Sentsov began

Today, July 21, in Rostov-on-Don, the first meeting of the North Caucasus District Military Court in the case of the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov was held, which is accused of preparing terrorist attacks in the Crimea. Sentsov did not find himself guilty.

In his speech, the public prosecutor said that the director created the “terrorist community ... in order to destabilize the authorities and law enforcement agencies of Crimea in order for the republic to leave the Russian Federation,” Interfax reports.

After the charge text was read out, Sentsov’s statement sounded: “I do not plead guilty. I consider the case political and fabricated. ”

The director Dmitry Dinze’s lawyer told reporters that his client was waiting for an acquittal and spoke about the torture that the FSB officers applied to Sentsov.

In May 2014, Oleg Sentsov was detained by the FSB in the Crimea, where, according to investigators, he prepared a series of terrorist attacks as part of the Diversion Group of the Right Sector. In February 2015, the director was charged under the article “illegal acquisition, sale and storage of weapons” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

In addition to Sentsov, Alexander Kolchenko, Gennady Afanasyev and Alexei Chirniy are held in the case. Afanasyev and Chirniy gave confession and, having concluded a deal with the investigation, each was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment, reminiscent of “Radio Liberty” .

In support of Oleg Sentsov, Russian and foreign cultural figures and human rights activists spoke. They consider the charges against him far -fetched and politically motivated.
