The committee was liquidated against torture


Members of the human rights committee against torture decided to liquidate the organization, the chairman of the committee Igor Kalyapin told Interfax .

The human rights activist said that within three days the Ministry of Justice will be sent a notification of liquidation. He also promised that at a conference on July 28, members of the organization will discuss further human rights activities.

On July 8, the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court refused to satisfy the appeal of the organization to the decision of the lower instance, which recognized the Committee to enter into the register of foreign agents legitimate. After that, Kalyapin told Slon that members of the human rights organization will discuss the issue of liquidation of the committee.

Roskomnadzor, according to Kalyapin, appealed to law enforcement agencies with a statement to the Committee for the fact that members of the organization distributed leaflets to support the victims of torture, which did not indicate that the committee against torture was included in the register of foreign agents. The administrative article involves a fine of 300 to 500 thousand rubles.

The Committee against torture was created in Nizhny Novgorod in 2000. The organization also has a department in Orenburg, under the auspices of the committee, human rights activists work in Chechnya.
