Russian striker Alexander Semin said that he had unsuccessfully spent the last season in the NHL, but with the transition to Montreal hopes to return to his previous level.
Montreal announced the signing of a contract for one season with 31-year-old Semin. The Russian spent last season at Carolina, but in 57 matches of the regular championship only 19 (6 goals +13 programs) were noted by glasses.
“I like Montreal and local fans. The team has pleasant people and this is a very good club. I want to try to start all over again. The last season turned out to be bad for me, but I want to return to the previous level. I have never considered the option with a transition to the KHL. I am still young and I want to play here, and my family likes to live in North America,” said Semin, whose words are given in an official account "Canadiens" on Twitter .
The striker’s contract with Karolina was designed for another three years, for which Semin was supposed to earn $ 21 million. However, at the end of June, the club decided to buy a hockey player contract. As a result, in the next six years, Semin will receive a total of $ 14 million as compensation.
The best for Semin in the NHL was the 2009/10 season, in which he scored 40 goals and assisted 44 times to partners in 73 “regularities” matches in Washington.
