Instead of the committee against torture, a new human rights organization is created

In August, the Committee on Prevention of Torture will begin work. It is created instead of a liquidated human rights organization Committee against torture recognized by a foreign agent.

This was announced today, on July 28, the head of the new organization of the I, one of the founders of the committee against torture, a member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, Igor Kalyapin, reports Mediazone .

“We have two news today: the news that the committee against torture ceases its existence this week documents will be submitted to the Ministry of Justice and next week we stop working. From Monday, another interregional organization will begin to operate - the Committee on the Prevention of Torture. A year ago, she was registered in Orenburg, I was elected her leader, ”said Kalyapin.

The torture committee was founded in Nizhny Novgorod in 2000. The organization helps the victims of torture with the execution of complaints, represents their interests in court, including the European Court of Human Rights, and helps to receive compensation and medical rehabilitation.

On January 16, the Committee against torture was included in the register of foreign agents, on July 8, the court refused to organize an appeal to this decision. Last week, the organization made a decision on self -liquidation .

“It is unacceptable for us to be called inagent. Because it is not true, this is a lie, ”said Kalyapin.

He said that the new organization will do without foreign money - the financing of the torture prevention committee will be carried out through donations of Russian citizens.

“There is no need to think that if we created an organization with a similar name, we are trying to somehow slip away from the law. No, we perfectly understand that if nothing is changed, the story will happen again in two months, ”the human rights activist explained.
