The Committee against torture will cease its activities from August 3, after which the torture prevention committee will work, created in 2014. According to RIA Novosti, this was announced by the head of the committee Igor Kalyapin.
"We have two news today. One sad news - the news that the committee against torture ceases to exist. This week final formalities will be completed and documents are submitted to the Ministry of Justice on the liquidation of the organization. From the next week the committee will stop functioning against torture," Kalyapin said.
“The second news - from Monday next week, another inter -regional public organization will begin to operate, which is called the Committee on Prevention of Torture, which was created last year in the city of Orenburg,” Kalyapin added.
The activities of the torture prevention committee will be organized on the donations of Russians. "There is no need to think that since we have created an organization that coincides almost by name, we just want to go around this law, leaving everything unchanged. Unfortunately, it is impossible to leave, because it is clear that in a couple of months they recognize the foreign agent and the Committee to prevent torture," he said.
On July 24, members of the checkpoint decided to liquidate the organization.
In January, the Ministry of Justice forcibly included the checkpoint in the register of "foreign agents" on the basis of the submission of the prosecutor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Oleg Ponasenko.
