Soros Foundation can leave Russia

Following the Makanturov Foundation and the National Fund, the Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation), founded by financier and philanthropist George Soros, who supports programs in the field of education, culture and art, healthcare and civil initiatives, may go away from Russia.

This was reported by Interfax with reference to the head of the Civil Assistance Committee Svetlana Gannushkin, who noted that the Soros Fund has already stopped accepting applications from Russian non -profit organizations for grants.

“Our organization received a notification from the Soros Foundation that they can stop financing projects until September 1 of this year,” said Igor Kalyapin, head of the committee on torture.

He recalled that the Soros Fund is included in the Patriotic Stop List , compiled by the Federation Council.

On July 22, it became known about the decision to leave Russia of the Makanterov Foundation, which also appears on this list. The Makanturov Foundation supports projects in the field of human rights, global safety and environmental protection.

On July 28, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation introduced into a list of undesirable foreign and international non -governmental organizations, the National Fund funded by the US Congress in support of democracy, which contributes to the "formation and development of democracy and freedom around the world." According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the activities of this organization threaten the “constitutional system, defense capabilities and security of the Russian Federation”.
