“Today we have in prisons of Russia those whom we consider political prisoners. There are eleven of them,” Klimkin said. “To some of them, despite all international legal norms, there are not even consular access.” The Minister explained that representatives of Ukraine have not yet been able to meet with Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klim.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine makes equal efforts to liberate both the famous hopes of Savchenko and Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian citizens who are held in Russia, Klimkin emphasized.
On April 10, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine handed the Russian consul in Kiev a note of protest in connection with a violation of the rights of Ukrainians arrested in Russia Karpyuk and Klikh. The document stated that the Russian authorities are grossly violating their obligations, not allowing consular workers to Ukrainian prisoners and not providing Kyiv about the place of maintenance of these citizens in custody.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine demanded that the Russian side ensure the objective and impartial consideration of the cases of Karpyuk and Klikh, immediately allow consular officials of Ukraine to them in accordance with the international legal obligations of Russia, as well as to prosecute persons guilty of violation of these obligations.
