3D Systems and E-Nable: 3D printers help people with disabilities

The story of E-Nable began several years ago, when two strangers, the creator of the scenery from the USA and a carpenter from South Africa, united in order to develop a hand prosthesis for a small child in South Africa , and then made instructions available to everyone so that everyone could make such a prosthesis for themselves.
Since then, this small initiative has grown into world movement, uniting researchers, engineers, enthusiasts of 3D printing, therapists, designers and all those who want to help people with disabilities .
Community members are engaged in the development and 3D-pacify fingers and hands for children with disabilities, and now they have helped-recently E-Nable has announced partnership with 3D Systems , a leading company in the field of 3D printing.
With the support of 3D Systems, the community will have new opportunities - creating new designs, attracting developers and designers, as well as new educational opportunities for volunteers, students and those who are helped by the community.
One of the general E-Nable and 3D Systems projects will be the development of a new design of the K-1 open source code.
E-Nable express the gratitude that the largest 3D printing company not only appreciated their work and mission and is ready to support, but also shares their methods of openness and involvement, which are the basis of open source projects.
In the very near future, the community participants will receive the first K-1 design files and will be able to make them on various printers, test, give feedback and improve them together.
Partnership 3D Systems and E-Nable will be as follows:
- Collaboration and the creation of a new design prosthesis. The design will be free and open to all optimized for printing on Cube , Cubepro , Ekocycle Cube and other inexpensive printers. About how to print and collect a hand, video assistance will be published;
- 3D Systems will provide the E-Nable community with technical assistance and tips in the field of technology and 3D printing;
- Organizations will conclude a partnership with several laboratories on the basis of universities to jointly work on prototypes;
- Organizations will develop training materials on the basics of 3D design, print and technology.
