Writer Samuel Lurie dies

Writer, literary historian, literary critic Samuil Lurie died at the age of 74. Viktor Shenderovich announced Lurie's death on his Facebook with reference to the writer's daughter. The date and place of Samuil Lurie's funeral will be announced later.

Radio station "Echo of Moscow" reports that Samuil Lurie died in the United States after a severe and prolonged illness.

• Samuil Aronovich Lurie was born on May 12, 1942 in Sverdlovsk. Graduated from the Russian department of the philological faculty of the Leningrad State University. He made his debut as a critic in the Zvezda magazine in 1964.
• For several years he led the column "Lessons of Fine Literature" in the Zvezda magazine, and in the St. Petersburg newspaper Delo - a permanent column "View from the Corner". He was the author of about a thousand publications in the media, as well as 12 books and collections.
• Samuil Lurie was a member of the jury of the Andrei Sakharov Prize "For journalism as an act" and the Russian Booker Prize, heading its jury.
• He was awarded the Zvezda magazine award (1993, 2003), the P. A. Vyazemsky award (1997) and the Neva magazine award (2002).
