Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Igor Markov, who last week, who spoke among the co-founders of the Ukraine rescue committee, was detained in the Italian city of San Remo at the request of the Ukrainian Bureau of Interpol. This was reported on Wednesday by Ukrainian Pravda with reference to the press secretary of the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs Artem Shevchenko.
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine said that they were waiting for official confirmation of information about the detention. After that, it will be possible to start the extradition procedure.
According to European Pravda, Markov, along with Ukrainian, also had a passport of a Russian citizen.
The ex-deputy has been wanted since December 2014. He is suspected of part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism with the use of weapons), which provides for three to seven years of the colony. Markov is charged with involvement in the attack in 2007 on a picket of nationalists who protested from the Odessa regional administration against the establishment of a monument to Catherine II in the capital of the region.
In 2012, Markov became a deputy-one-mandate from the Kyiv district of Odessa, after which he joined the fraction of the Party of Regions. In September 2013, the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine ordered the Central Election Commission to cancel the registration of the deputy due to falsification in the elections. The next month, Markov was detained and arrested. However, in February 2014, after the victory of the Euromaidan, Rada returned the mandate to the region, and the Primorsky district court of Odessa freed him from arrest.
After that, Markov went to Russia, the rapprochement with which he supported being as a deputy, opposing the European integration of Ukraine and for its entry into the Customs Union. The ex-deputy often appeared on the air of Russian television channels and criticized the post-revolutionary authorities of Ukraine.
In October 2014, Markov, who was in the territories of Eastern Ukraine occupied by militants, took out Russian actor Mikhail Porechenkov from the Donetsk airport, after which Anna News confirmed that Porechenkov shot the Ukrainian security forces on the air of the pro -Russian television channel.
