Russia expanded the food embargo to countries that supported sanctions against Russia. A corresponding government decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Interfax reports.
"Now, to the states of the European Union, Australia, Canada, Norway and the USA, of which in August last year, the supply of some kind of agricultural production was prohibited, a number of countries were added, namely Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, Lichtenstein and, on special conditions, Ukraine," Medvedev said at a government meeting.
These countries have joined the EU sanctions against Russia. “They argue their decision by the fact that they are obliged to introduce these sanctions by virtue of a number of agreements with the European Union. But this position is only fair,” Medvedev noted. “I want to note that a number of states that have a similar agreement with the European Union do not participate in sanctions against the Russian Federation. So joining sanctions is a conscious choice that means readiness for response measures with our The parties are accepted and accepted. "
The embargo will be extended to Ukraine if the government of this country appliesthe economic part of the Association Agreement with the EU concluded in June 2014, Medvedev said. According to him, in Moscow they do not see the prerequisites in order to agree by the end of the current year with Ukraine and the EU on the issue of economic association.
“We agreed to give a certain time - until January 1 of the next year - to resolve issues of economic settlement. After this period, if we cannot agree through the mediation of the European Union, but I don’t see any signs of this, the previously adopted documents that establish the usual trading regime and the food embargo for Ukraine,” the premiere noted.
Of the countries newly entered the Russian “black list”, significant deliveries were made only from Iceland. In January-May, her share of Iceland in the import of fish into Russia amounted to 15 percent. The list of suppliers from Montenegro has three meat production enterprises and six - for the development of finished meat products. But deliveries from them have been prohibited from the fall of 2014 for veterinary reasons. From Liechtenstein, two manufacturers of feed and feed additives have the right to export to Russia. There are no Albanian enterprises among accredited suppliers.
The embargo for the supply of products from countries that adopted sanctions against Russia was introduced on August 7, 2014. On June 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the extension of the food embargo for a year.
On July 29, Putin signed a decree on the destruction of sanctions products on the Russian border. According to the document, from August 6, all products from the countries that the Russian food embargo are applied to. An exception, the decree says, is only "goods imported by individuals for personal use, or placed under the customs procedure of customs transit and transported to third countries."
Nevertheless, on Tuesday, Rosselkhoznadzor said that 552 kilograms of sanctions products that citizens tried to import into the country in manual luggage were already destroyed. In total, 41 tons of sanctions products of animal origin and more than 433 tons of plant - vegetable ones were from August 6 to 11.
