The LPR has abandoned the death penalty

The authorities of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic did not begin to introduce the death penalty into their criminal code, reports . the press service of the local parliament

During the consideration of the bill, local deputies adopted an amendment excluding the article on the use of the death penalty.

“Today, we already have enough people dying in the course of hostilities. In addition, we are moving towards the Eurasian Economic Union, and we need to get as close as possible to the norms and measures of Russian legislation,” said parliamentarian Konstantin Matsyurak.

Life imprisonment and complete confiscation of property remained in the LPR Criminal Code. A life sentence is imposed for the commission of especially grave crimes, including encroachment "against the health of the population and public morality." Women, men over 65 and minors are not subject to life imprisonment.

Earlier in June, information appeared that the death penalty might be introduced in the LNR. The same deputy Matsiurak told the Istok agency that such a measure could be introduced into the legislation.

It is worth noting that the death penalty is included in the Criminal Code of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic .
