Businessman Gennady Timchenko, included in the sanctions lists of the United States and the European Union, settled in the former residence of Nikita Khrushchev on the Sparrow Hills. According to Vedomosti, Timchenko moved to the house over the Moscow-river after he lost the opportunity to visit his own villa in Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva, as well as other places in Europe and the USA.
Timchenko’s new house is reliably hidden from prying eyes behind the fence and trees. It is located at 32 Kosygina Street. This is only a kilometer from the observation deck on the Vorobyevsky mountains on the top of a steep hill, where there are other mansions built in the 1950s for members of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee.
Now almost all of this territory belongs to the Federal Security Service, which started a large -scale reconstruction there.
The fact that Timchenko was going to move from Switzerland to Russia became known at the end of 2012. His acquaintances explained it differently. Some said that he would invest in Russian companies, and this requires personal presence. Others added that President Putin is interested in returning wealthy acquaintances to Russia to maintain the growth of the Russian economy. Still others hinted that the reason for moving could be the interest of the American Ministry of Justice in Timchenko’s business.
In July 2013, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin provided a plot of 2.6 hectares at 32 Kosygin, in the territory of a specially protected natural reserve "Valley Vorobyovy Gory" for rent by Zhardin Development LTD with the British Virgin Islands to accommodate the hotel. Since then, Timchenko has been visiting there, they told Vedomosti two of his acquaintances.
