Vladimir Putin is always busy with saving his ass. This was announced in an interview with Radio Poland by the vice speaker of the European Parliament Ryshard Charnetsky. The politician literally said the following: "Sorry, I will say now indigenous: under any circumstances, Putin saves his ass."
“He wants to hide the fact that Russia has lost Ukraine in politically,” Charnetsky continued. “To distract attention from its defeat, he will burn food, attack a neighboring country.” According to the vice speaker, Putin needs this in order to "maintain the support of the elites of the KGB", which led him to power.
In the near future, the politician noted, such a policy will be effective for Putin. “However,” Charnetsky emphasized, “the economic situation in Russia worsens, and a lot reminds me of the 80s. Then the Soviet Union could not stand the economic, political and military competition with the West.”
Speaking about sanctions against Moscow, the vice speaker emphasized that there is no reason to cancel them. "Crimea is still occupied, occupied part of Eastern Ukraine," the politician noted. He admitted that in the West there is a strong pro -Russian lobby and "the voice of Russia is now saying by many representatives of business, the world of finance who want to continue to make money." However, the task of European parliamentarians, Charnetsky emphasized is to think about sanctions in case of escalation of Russian aggression.
An effective measure, according to the politician, would be the exclusion of Russia from the SWIFT system. “Thanks to this decision, Russia would have lost 5 percent of GDP in a year,” said the vice speaker. “I want to draw your attention to the fact that in the first two quarters of the year, Russia has lost 4.6 percent of GDP. According to the results of the year, the state treasury would have lost 10 percent - this would become a disaster.”
“I believe that the European Union can stop military aggression thanks to such sanctions,” Charnetsky concluded. “Putin loves military games, but you need to take this toy from him.”
