Vladimir Yakunin plans to resign

The head of Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin, will leave his post. This is reported by Gazeta.ru and the Dozhd TV channel , citing their sources. Officially, this information was not confirmed by Russian Railways. The media do not name the date of Yakunin's resignation.

Yakunin's successor will be chosen in the near future, Gazeta.ru reports. According to Dozhd, among the contenders for the post of head of Russian Railways are the first vice-president of the company Alexander Misharin, adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, the general director of Uralvagonzavod Oleg Sienko and Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

According to Interfax , citing its source, Vladimir Yakunin gave written consent to become a senator from the Kaliningrad region . Nikolai Tsukanov, a candidate for governor of this region (who still holds the post of head of the region), said that he invited Yakunin to become a senator at the beginning of the election campaign. The top manager of Russian Railways gave an answer just now, so Tsukanov had to change the list of his possible representatives in the Federation Council.
