To raise cargo into orbit, the elevator uses the centrifugal force that arises due to the rotation of the planet. Despite the fact that cosmic elevators have always considered only theoretical and unrealistic technology from fantastic novels, now they look like cheaper and reliable alternatives to launching missiles, especially when it comes to sending super -heavy people into space.
The Canadian cosmolift project is the highest tower that you can imagine-it will exceed more than twenty times the highest skyscraper on the planet, an 828-meter building of the Burge-Khalifa. According to the chief inventor Brendan Quine, the start of the spacecraft, their refueling and landing will be carried out on the roof of the lift tower. Engineers offer starships to the top of the tower with the help of wind energy. The Canadian fantastic project also promises to be very economical - of course, on the scale of its sphere - with its use it will be possible to save more than thirty percent of the fuel and huge amounts of money required for the preparation and launch of a rocket to orbit.
The tower project also includes autonomous landing technologies. “Planting at an altitude of 20 kilometers above sea level is more than an impressive demonstration, this will make a space trip more like a flight in an airliner,” commented the general director of Thoth Technology Inc. Caroline Roberts. In addition to launching light missile carriers, the launch pad at the top of the tower can be suitable for telecommunication needs and scientific experiments. Soon this technology will be tested on the towers of a small height - at 25 and 150 meters, respectively. The company plans to organize tourist excursions to the top of the space elevator.
Thoth Technology also works in several directions, which are still under development: this is the concept of a boat for landing on Mars and creating a special probe for researching elements in the atmospheres of unexplored planets.
