Estonia President proposed a joint of solidarity with convicts in the case of espionage

Estonian President of Toomas Ilves called on residents of the republic to support a compatriot - a security officer (Estonian special services) of Eston Kokhver, convicted in Russia on charges of espionage. He wrote about this on his Facebook .

The President suggested that on August 20, on the anniversary of the restoration of Estonian independence, people attached yellow tapes to their clothes - in solidarity with the convict. He published his own photo with such a ribbon.

Yellow tape is a symbol that has different values. In the United States, in particular, it was used to symbolic support of compatriots who were hostage abroad. Similarly, in 2011, the Estonians supported compatriots stolen in Lebanon.

The Foreign Ministry of Estonia, in turn, demanded the immediate liberation of Kochver, saying that its detention is illegal. The head of the government of the Republic Tavi Ryvas called the trial of an employee of the PB "Fars." He assured that the Estonian authorities are doing everything possible in order to achieve his liberation.

A representative of the EU for foreign affairs, Federica Mogherini, also advocated the liberation of Kokhver. In response to this, the Russian diplomatic source told Interfax that the verdict of the Estonian is the internal case of the Russian Federation.

On August 19, the Pskov Regional Court sentenced Eston Kokhver to 15 years in prison and a fine of 100 thousand rubles. An employee of the PB was found guilty of espionage and illegal border crossing.

Eston Kokhver entered the territory of the Russian Federation in September 2014 under the circumstances unclear to the end. According to the Estonian side, it was stolen in the border Estonian territory, and then transported to Russia. The FSB, in turn, argued that the security officer was detained in the Pskov region and that under him were discovered materials "which have the nature of the intelligence assignment."
