Deputy imam killed in Stavropol region

The deputy imam of the village of Irgakly in the Stavropol Territory was found dead. Numerous gunshot wounds were found on the body. As a relative of the murdered man told the Caucasian Knot, 32-year-old Zamirbek Makhmutov was on his way to morning prayers at the mosque when he was shot. “Zamirbek had no conflicts with anyone, he is a completely peaceful person. He was killed for his religious activities; there can be no other motives here. Law enforcement officers constantly put pressure on him, confiscated his computer, and then returned it,” says the publication’s interlocutor. “He is a graduate of the Islamic Institute, very literate, a normal guy, no radical deviations. He was conflict-free, and where there is a conflict, he always tried to resolve it,” Mufti of Stavropol Muhammad-haji Rakhimov said about the murdered man. Investigators opened a criminal case into the murder under Article 105 of the Criminal Code (murder) and Article 222 of the Criminal Code (illegal trafficking in weapons).
