
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko decided to pardon and release from the conclusion of the former presidential candidate Nikolai Statkevich. This was reported by BelTA with reference to the Presidential Administration.
In addition, Lukashenko pardoned other political prisoners: Nikolai Santa, Igor Olenevich, Evgenia Vaskovich, Artem Prokopenko, Yuri Rubtsova. Meanwhile, at least three political zones remain in conclusion - these are the defendants in the “ Graffitists' affairs ” Maxim Pekarsky, Vadim Zheromsky and Vyacheslav Kasinerov.
Statkevich has already been released, reports the Charter97. He called his wife Marina Adamovich and said that in the evening he would come to Minsk.
In May 2011, Statkevich was sentenced to six years in prison . The court came to the conclusion that it was Statkevich, together with another presidential candidate, Dmitry Uss, “prepared mass riots” and headed the “atrocious crowd” during the procession on Independence Avenue on December 19, 2010. The USS was sentenced to five and a half years. Other convicts in the case on December 19 received a shorter time.
Initially, Statkevich was serving a sentence in the Shklovskaya colony No. 17. However, in January 2012, he was tightened by the conditions and transferred to the Mogilev prison No. 4 to three years. On January 12, Statkevich after this period was returned to the Shklovskaya colony. There he immediately began problems with the administration.
On May 5, the court, on the proposal of the colony administration , transferred Statkevich to the prison regime until the end of the sentence. Politics was accused of violating the rules of internal routine and disobedience to the requirements of the leadership of the colony.
Statkevich is the only presidential candidate in Belarus in the 2010 election, which has still remained in custody. Until the end of the deadline, he remained for a year and four months. He refused to ask for pardon. International human rights organizations recognized Statkevich political prisoners.
In May 2011, the court in Minsk sentenced the Anarchist Olenevich to 8, and Nikolai Grandfather - to 4.5 years in prison. Their accomplices received a shorter time.
