Estonia will build a wall on the border with Russia
The Estonian Police and Border Guard Department announced its intention to build a fence on the border with Russia. This will be done to prevent violations of the border.
The height of the wall will be two meters, the total length will exceed 108 kilometers - thus, approximately two thirds of the land border between Estonia and the Russian Federation will be equipped with the wall.
The fence will be equipped with barbed wire. Video cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles will also be used to guard the border. In addition, the Estonian authorities intend to install additional fencing to prevent the movement of wild animals.
Work on the technical strengthening of the border will begin in 2018, their total cost will be 71 million euros.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Irina Yarovaya called the intention of the Estonian authorities "an attempt to build a reservation."
There will be no fence in the swampy areas of the border line, only border posts will be installed there and a control strip will be laid.
- In May 2015, it was announced that the government of Ukraine would allocate $250 million to strengthen the border with the Russian Federation. As part of this project, about two thousand kilometers of the Russian-Ukrainian border will be equipped with anti-tank ditches, metal towers, surveillance, signaling and destruction equipment, and special strongholds for border guards.
