The United States will be given a visa to the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, Interfax told at the American embassy.
It is clarified that Russian diplomats notified that the visa will be ready on August 26, but it can be limited to the right to participate only in events through the UN.
“As the Russian media correctly wrote, the inter -parliamentary assembly is not the UN body, and thus, its participants do not apply to the obligations of the host,” the diplomatic representative office emphasized.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Matvienko will head the Russian delegation at the fourth world conference of the speakers of parliaments. The event will be held at the UN site in New York from August 30 to September 2.
“The State Department at a high level is only limited to signals that, in principle, a visa for a trip of the Chairman of the Federation Council can be issued taking into account its planned meeting with the UN Secretary General Pan Gi Muna. However, things are not going on further than words, ”the Foreign Ministry commented.
Interfax in the evening of August 24, citing several sources, reported that the United States would refuse Matvienko to visa. On the night of August 25, the American embassy refuted this data, clarifying that the application is still being considered.
Valentina Matvienko was in the first lists of individuals, against which the United States and the European Union imposed sanctions. It is assumed that she is prohibited from entering the territory of these countries, and all her accounts in the banks of states are frozen.
